Privacy Policy

Data we collect

We only collect what the app needs to work and improve. All data below is linked to your account but is never used to track you.

• Email address — to create and secure your account.
• First name — to personalize your experience (shown in the app).
• Precise location — to find monuments around you, show the map and weather, and trigger nearby-landmark notifications. Used only while you grant permission.
• Photos you take in the app (“souvenir” photos) — saved to your history and, if you choose, to your photo library.
• Product interaction (usage analytics) — anonymous-by-default events to understand which features are used and improve the app.
• Crash data — diagnostic reports to fix bugs and keep ScanTrip stable.

How we use your data

• Provide core features: monument scanning, descriptions, audio guide, map, translation and your travel history.
• Personalize content to your language and location.
• Improve the app through aggregated analytics and crash diagnostics.
• Secure your account and prevent abuse.

We do not use your data for advertising and we do not build advertising profiles.

Third-party services

To deliver its features, ScanTrip sends limited data to trusted providers that process it on our behalf:

• Supabase — authentication, database and storage (your account, history and photos).
• OpenAI — the camera image and prompts are processed to generate monument descriptions (GPT-4o).
• Google Places & Street View — to find nearby landmarks and fetch place details and photos.
• OpenWeather — to display local weather.
• ElevenLabs — to generate the audio-guide voice.
• DeepL — to power the live translation feature.
• Mixpanel (EU servers) — privacy-aware usage analytics; you can opt out.
• Sentry — crash reporting; you can opt out.

These providers are bound by their own privacy and security commitments and only receive the data needed for their specific function.

Tracking & advertising

ScanTrip does not track you. We use no advertising identifiers (no IDFA), no ad networks, and we do not link your activity across other companies’ apps or websites. Analytics are used solely to improve ScanTrip and can be disabled in the app.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. On-device caches (photos, text and audio) expire automatically after 30 days. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal data and associated photos.

Your rights & choices

• Access, correct or export your data by contacting us.
• Opt out of analytics and crash reporting in the app settings.
• Revoke camera, location or photo permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
• Delete your account and all its data directly from the app (Profile → Delete account).

Children

ScanTrip is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date above.
