Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how ScanTrip uses cookies and similar technologies on its website (scantrip.app) and how the app handles local storage. It complements our Privacy Policy. ScanTrip is built to respect your privacy: we use no advertising cookies and do not track you across other apps or websites.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember your actions and preferences over time. “Similar technologies” include local storage and device identifiers used by mobile apps to store information locally.
Cookies on our website
Our marketing website is intentionally minimal. It only stores what is strictly necessary to remember your choices (such as your selected language) and does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Types of cookies we may use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function (for example, remembering your language preference). These cannot be switched off.
Preferences
Remember choices you make to improve your experience, such as language or region.
Analytics
Help us understand, in aggregate, how the site and app are used so we can improve them. Analytics are privacy-respecting and can be disabled (see below).
The mobile app
The ScanTrip app does not use advertising cookies. It stores data locally on your device (for example, cached monuments, photos, audio and your preferences) so it can work quickly and offline. For product analytics and crash diagnostics we use privacy-respecting tools with EU data residency, which you can turn off in the app’s settings.
Third parties
Some cookies or local storage may be set by trusted providers that power our analytics and crash diagnostics. These providers act on our behalf and are not permitted to use the data for their own advertising. We do not sell your data and we do not allow third-party advertising cookies.
How long they last
- Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser;
- Preference cookies typically last up to 12 months;
- Analytics identifiers are retained only as long as needed to improve the service, then expire;
- On-device caches in the app expire automatically, typically within 30 days.
Managing cookies
- You can accept, block or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect how the site works;
- You can disable analytics and crash diagnostics directly in the ScanTrip app settings;
- You can clear the app’s on-device caches and delete your account from within the app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our practices or the law evolve. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date above.
